Capabilities
Services are wide-ranging but broadly include criticality assessment, peer review, compliance inspections, training and the provision of independent advice.
Specific areas include:
- Criticality hazard identification and criticality safety assessment associated with the design, operation and decommissioning of facilities by use of criticality data handbooks and hand methods of calculation.
- Criticality compliance inspections and auditing, including in-depth criticality safety system reviews.
- Criticality safety awareness training, both within a classroom environment and via one-to-one sessions. Topics include the fundamentals of criticality safety, past criticality accidents, assessment methods and methods of criticality control.
- Peer review of criticality safety assessments and Quality Assurance checking for operational, transport and decommissioning applications.
- The production of Criticality Incident Detection and Alarm System (CIDAS) Omission Cases.
- Development of criticality safety assessment procedures and methodologies, both for facility operation and decommissioning phases.
- The provision of transport criticality safety assessments in support of IAEA Transport Regulations submissions and on-site transport applications.
- The provision of independent criticality safety advice to Safety Working Parties, Nuclear Safety Committees and nationally recognised Working Parties.
- The provision of criticality safety advice associated with the design and operation of fissile material waste stores and the proposed national waste repository.
- The undertaking of specialist facility fissile material surveys; for example, the identification of potential sources of fissile material accumulation in support of decommissioning proposals.
How you benefit
