Engineering Substantiation, Maintenance and Modification

Project Background
Over time, your facility may need changes. Some need to be maintained, some become obsolete and may need replacing, while others need to be enhanced to carry out new or different work.

Engineering substantiation involves reviewing existing plant and equipment to ensure that it is fit for purpose and meets current standards and regulatory requirements. Once we have reviewed the safety case, produced an engineering schedule and classified the systems within a plant, we can advise on ways to bring the plant up to the right standards.

Our capabilities

UKAEA’s Engineering Services Team covers a wide range of disciplines and includes specialists in:

  • Engineering substantiation
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Process engineering
  • Engineering IT
  • Control and instrumentation engineering
  • Electrical engineering
  • Civil engineering
  • Building services
  • Ventilation plant design

In support of maintenance and modification our experts in Availability, Reliability and Maintainability (ARM) and Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) will assess your plant needs.  We will help you to keep the plant running safely and reliably whilst minimising costs as far as possible.

How you benefit

We can ensure that your plant is kept up-to-date and operating according to your needs whilst not being overmaintained against its safety case status. As part of the safety case or environmental maintenance schedule review, we evaluate what is required in terms of maintenance, either to upgrade a facility to modern standards or to support a safety case for ‘Care and Maintenance’.

Our experienced engineers are well placed to identify opportunities for reducing maintenance costs, optimising plant performance or suggesting improvements or modifications.
