Design Engineers

Salary range to £45k Engineering Services provide professional design support to customers both within UKAEA and elsewhere in the worldwide nuclear decommissioning arena. Activities include the provision of specifications, concepts, option-selection support, scheme and detailed design production including justification, substantiation and verification.


A number of vacancies (both permanent and contract) exist for design staff to join the team. All disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, C&I, Civil/Structural and Ventilation and Process Engineers) will be considered.

You can be based at any of UKAEA Ltd premises but there will be a requirement to work at other locations including overseas.

Main Responsibilities

You will provide a wide-ranging and disciplined engineering design service ensuring that all engineering design and works are substantiated and commensurate with current best practice. You will also provide an advisory and problem solving service to customers, managing staff and contractors, preparing financial sanction documentation and dealing with subsequent control of project finance.

Requirements

A degree in science or engineering and demonstrable or comparable qualifications and/or experience.

A proven track record in design process including design justification, verification and technical assessment and engineering substantiation.

Technical experience gained within an engineering environment and knowledge of project management.

You will have proven people management skills including experience of managing contrctors, CDM, and a sound understanding of safety management in high hazard industry.

Good interpersonal, communication and presentation skills and the ability to work both on your own initiative and as part of a team.

Membership of a professional body.

Additional Specific Requirements:

Chemical/Process Engineers - experience in sodium and liquid metal decommissioning and destruction preferred.

EC&I Engineers - experience in SCADA/PLC and EMS systems preferred.

Mechanical Engineers - experience in cranes/flasks/ventilation and general mechanical engineering preferred.

Civil/Structural Engineers - experience in general civil and structural design, construction and dismantling preferred.

Reactor Systems Design and Build - experienced engineers with practical knowledge of PWR operations, design and build safety case, engineering and commissioning requirements.
